Herd Competition Rules (as approved by the Committee in 2003 & amended 2022)
Each entrant must have paid their annual membership and the competition entrance fee by the closing date of entries. 30th June. No late entries accepted.
Calves entered for the calf competition must be born in the year of judging.
Judges must complete judging by 15th August.
Only pure bred cattle with registered calves may enter and all such cattle in the herd must be forward for judging.
The Association has the right to verify the numbers of registrations of cattle with the Hereford Cattle Society.
Bi-Annually there is a National Competition. The top scoring herd from each association area goes forward for judging again by a person appointed by the Hereford Cattle Society.
Herds may not just enter in the year of the National Competition only. Regular entrants only will qualify for the National Competition with the exception of those entering for the first time as new members of the SWHA. Herds in the competition will be divided into Small, Medium and Large categories as equally as possible relative to the numbers of cattle in each of the different herds entered once entries have been received.
